The Kardashians opened their new Hulu season with an AI video of themselves, made to say AI could never replace them. Clever satire or hypocritical?

In the season 8 opener, AI doubles of the family glitch (Kourtney's face turns into a thumb), the real family confronts them, and Khloé switches them off before a title card reads "AI Could Never". Some viewers called using AI to make an anti-AI point hypocritical; Khloé told critics to "WATCH UNTIL THE END".

What happened

The Kardashians returned to Hulu on 8 October 2026. The season 8 premiere opens with AI-generated versions of the family in glamorous places: Kris on a yacht in St Tropez, Kourtney and Travis Barker in Japan, Khloé on safari in Kenya, Kendall and Kylie at Versailles and Kim skiing in Switzerland. Back in Calabasas the doubles glitch, the real family confronts them, Kris insists the real family "cannot be replaced", and Khloé switches them off before a title card reading "The Kardashians: AI Could Never". Khloé later posted the clip on Instagram, telling people to "WATCH UNTIL THE END".

Why people disagree

Fans who liked it say it is self-aware comedy that mocks deepfakes and makes the point that people watch for the real family, not a digital copy. Critics say making a two-minute AI video to argue against AI undercuts the message: one viewer called it "so hypocritical", another asked how much freshwater it used, and others simply found it confusing.

What's still unclear

Hulu and the producers haven't said how the sequence was made or what it cost, and it isn't clear whether the backlash will hurt the new season or simply bring it more attention.
