Community Guidelines
The short version: argue the idea, not the person.
What we want here
Today's Hot Take exists because people genuinely disagree about things, and that disagreement is more interesting when it's substantive. Vote, make your case in the comments, and engage with people who see it differently — that's the whole point.
What's not okay
Don't post anything illegal, threatening, or harassing. Don't attack other commenters personally, don't post hate speech targeting anyone's identity, and don't spam, impersonate others, or post content that infringes someone else's rights. Disagree with arguments, not people.
Reporting
Every comment has a Report button. If you see something that crosses the line, report it and we'll review it — reporting a comment doesn't hide it immediately, it flags it for us to look at.
Enforcement
We can hide or remove any comment, and suspend access for repeat or serious violations, at our discretion. We try to apply these guidelines consistently, but moderation is inherently judgment-based.
Full terms
These guidelines work alongside our full Terms of Service, which governs use of the site more broadly.
