CNN, MS NOW (formerly MSNBC), and Politico sued the Trump administration Sunday after their reporters were turned away and had credentials confiscated at the White House gates — Trump had called their coverage "fake news" and a national security threat, while the outlets say their access was pulled "without notice or process" over unfavorable coverage. The White House Correspondents' Association warns the standard being used here "could be applied to any outlet in the future." A president's prerogative over who covers him, or a press-freedom crisis?

Emergency court hearings on restoring the outlets' access are expected within the week.
